Gaming has never been this fun!: Gamers! First Impressions

Hey up folks, well as the title says it’s another first impression post. So without further ado, let’s dive in to the post.

This is a story that revolves around certain students and one hobby. Amano Keita is our lonely protagonist who has a passion for gaming and is friends with Uehara Tasuku, who is secretly a fellow gamer and is someone who believes his life is perfect.

Anyone who is a long-term gamer, will tell you. In the past, before MS brought in Xbox & Xbox live and made multiplayer on consoles mainstream (other consoles have tried this, the dreamcast for instance). Gaming is / was predominately a single player experience. Where everything you played or achieved was mostly kept to yourself or occasionally told amongst your (small circle of) friends. For the most part it was a single, lonely existence.

So it should be no surprising that I can relate to the message that gamers! is saying. Gamers in general are; socially awkward, inept, shy people. And I can relate to Keita in particularly. As I was or kind am still like that. Here’s why.

Keita is a single player, who just out right sucks at any competitive gaming. This includes; fighting games, FPS, sports. I’d reckon that if the game is a single player, he’d rank high. And I understand that. Difference between me and him though is that, I try to learn where am going wrong. In other words, Keita is a scrub / n00b, who plays for fun. Where I try to correct where am going wrong in my games & try to maximise my fun out of it. Fighting games are the exception though; since my timing is just utter garbage. The fact that he is socially shy and awkward. With a longing to be part of something. Resonates with me. A lot. I do find him plain though.

The club that is ran at the school is done by none other than the school idol / closet gamer girl Karen Tendou. Who is hell-bent on getting Keita to be part of the roster. Why?, because he is a gamer. Now normally any MC would jump at the chance to be part of anything the girl of his dream is. However what made me laugh and understand Keita. Is that he actually turned down Karen’ offer….TWICE. It’s something that I’d do, funny enough. To have the perfect girl in whatever place you’re at, who is also in to your main interest just makes her perfect even more. It’s every gamer guys dreams – not for me though!. So I’m bamboozled as to why she has feelings for Keita. Plus there isn’t enough from Karen to me, so far.

The reason Keita turned down Karen, is I suspect is that he feels he won’t add anything to the group. The members already can in fact carry their weight in any games. He has to be carried. To put it simply; he’s dead weight to the group in any online gaming sessions. And he’s aware of it. Which makes it interesting.

The other thing that I like about gamers is that; it uses contemporary games like Persona 4 fighting game, guilty gear, CS;GO (counter strike) etc. I owe a lot to guild wars 2. As it helped me overcome, for the most part my shyness.

For me, the first impression of this anime:

Overall impression: V. Good

Gamers - 1B

Gamers - 1C

Alternatives: New Game!

What are your impression of the anime?. Have you seen this anime, or do you plan to?. Let me down in the comment section!!.

  1. I’m surprised to learn that Guild Wars helped with your shyness. When it comes to MMOs I am one of the most chatty people in the guild, but in real life I’ll barely speak. I can’t transfer the skill of typing to talking.

    1. Yeah, it helped me out a lot. Normally I’m okay on a one-on-one basis. However gw2 helped me out a lot. Not just on a 1-1. But more than one. And on teamspeak. Funny you say that. I guess we’re similar on that front, Judge πŸ˜€
