It is fated to be an apocalyptic fight: Fate/Apocrypha First Impressions

Hey up folks!!!. I’ve got another first impression post for you lovely peeps out there!. And well this one is from the much-loved or convoluted (whichever way you want to see it) dialogue heavy, action paced – fate anime.

Synopsis:

In the city of Trifas, two factions will fight for the control of the sacred relic, each of them possessing their own team of seven Servants: the Black Faction whose members are part of Yggdmillennia, protecting the Grail, and the Red Faction whose members were sent by the Mage’s Association, trying to take the Grail back. For an event of this scale, the Grail itself summons its own Servant, the holy Ruler, to oversee the conflict.

For those that don’t understand the synopsis of the series, it’s best to just google fate stay night. The premise is pretty much the same. Difference is with this series, you have 14 servants & 14 masters battling in a team of 7v7. The remaining team then reverts back to the format the original series is known for; a battle royale.

Straight off the bat, I won’t lie. I’m having a hard time remembering the masters names. Which is weird for me. As I can generally remember whose servant / master is who. Maybe because there are far more masters around this time. For newcomers to the series, this will only confuse them even more. I will say this; it’s the servants that make the series what it is, not the masters. Masters are just mere mouth pieces for their ideals.

As I said, it’s the servant that make the show what it is. The one servant that has my interest is; red saber – better known as Mordred. The son of Artoria. You know that saber. Backdrop is in order for this. Merlin decided as a joke to turn saber in to a pseudo-male. Morgana then drugged or seduced Artoria and then proceeded to “extract” sperm from her. Well the rest as they say is history. I do hope lancer Scathach makes an appearance. Best girl / waifu if she does. If not then that ruler class – Joan of Arc is the one. Mordred is just another saber with more attitude.

The other problem I can see is that some might get a bit confused as to which class is fighting for which faction ie red saber vs black saber. Since there is no rule as to which class can be summoned by who.

From the two episodes seen. There is some pretty nice actions scenes. However as with every fate series. The series can be heavy with the exposition or rather far too heavy with dialogue.

A-1 pictures have taken the reigns from Ufotable. So don’t expect any high budget scenes or anything. However, they’ve done a decent job – so far. Expect them to mess it up at some point. Which only A-1 can do.

For me, the first impression of this anime:

Overall impression: Good

Alternatives: Fate Stay Night 06, UBW, Fate Zero

What are your impression of the anime?. Have you seen this anime, or do you plan to?. Let me down in the comment section!!.

  1. Great post! I have never seen any of the Fate series so far, but perhaps it’s time to change that. Can you see this series without ever having seen any of the previous ones? Or will you miss too much in that way?

    1. You can watch it as it’s a seperate storyline. However in order to get a fair understanding of how the fate universe works, I’d start with Fate 06. It lays the ground work.
