Living a udon world; Poco’ Udon World First Impression

Since with the end of October or the start of November, we’ll be having some cold days ahead. How to counter act them days you ask?. Well we need a heartwarming anime to settle down and watch, to pass them cold, long dark days. And I have just the one. A really heart warming show; Poco’ Udon world (Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari).

The story of Poco’ udon world follows a Tanuki (a raccoon dog). A shape shifting creature of lore that can take on the form and behaviour of a human child. And Souta. A single, 30-year-old web designer who has moved back to his family’s old Udon restaurant / home, since the passing of his father.

4 episode in; it’s pretty obvious the shows main focuses isn’t on the udon food or the restaurant (as of yet). But rather it’s building up the characters of the show. With Souta being a single “parent” to Poco. Of course Souta is the only one who is actually aware of Poco’ real form.

The show is real heartwarming. As we follow the lives of Poco and Souta. And more importantly the interaction of the two & Souta’ friends and relations. It’s essentially the “sweetness and lightning” of the Autumn / Winter fall. Just seeing an innocent Poco is smiling is just so cute. Even when he is in his tankui or his half-human, half-tankui form he is really cute. And it just melts your heart.

Yes the obvious question is; how the hell did a creature of lore become real. Well it’s anime logic :P.

For this,

  1. This one reminds me an awful lot of Sweetness and Lightning from last season.

I’m not sure if I’ll pick this one up again after it finishes airing, but I enjoyed the first episode for what it is: cute, heartwarming, easily digestible, Slice of Life, and if that’s what you’re looking for, Poco definitely won’t disappoint.

I think it’s pretty good for what it is.

Really enjoyed your thoughts on this one 🙂

  2. I haven’t seen this yet but it is on my “to watch” list. You’re first impressions were awesome. I may have to bump this one up on my list and start watching sooner rather than later.
