Day 16 – Anime with best animation

Hey up everyone :D. Two weeks have flown by and with Matt nearing the finishing line it will be interesting to read his thoughts on the challenge when he finishes it, should he make a post on the challenge or just makes a tweet on twitter – it will be interesting either way. With me, I’ve just gone past the half-way mark.

Anime with best animation. Whilst some have to work within a budget, some studios seem to get a large budget and just go all out and impress us viewers and amaze us with the splendor of their artistry. So which one wowed me….

Mushishi 05

It would have been pretty obvious of me to go for the big name studios or the ones with most modern looking animation. But I didn’t. I don’t know about you, but there seems to be more simplicity in watching anime pre-cgi. Where everything is done by hand. Yes it was painstaking and took longer to do. And the anime that I found, had the best animation is Mushishi 05. Just grok at the scene above, sure it’s outdated by todays standards. But the hand-drawn effort and just the way they did things. It really brought me down to understand that simplicity has its own merits. And Mushishi pulled it off. Animation and art go hand in hand with each other. There is no jarring elements with each other. It all fits in with each other, creating a seemless world. Where your mind can just dive or drift off to. Not to mention the story telling is amazing.

  1. As usual, I’ve forgotten the title….. but it’s about a HS student who likes to design shoes, and a sad teacher. I’m sure I’l remember the title later, and I’ll get back to you. You should watch it too.

  2. Apologetically, I admit I burst out laughing when I read ‘ Just grok at the scene above’ haha. Mushishi is gorgeous! As much as I love the show, even I would have chosen something more fluid and flashy from somebody like Bones for this question but I can see where you’re coming from – one can appreciate the subtlety and movement of Mushishi’s visuals just as much. Nice choice.
